2-Stroke Oil Mixing Guide

Calculate the right amount of oil for your fuel and prepare an accurate mix for smaller garden machines powered by 2-stroke engines.

Quick calculator

How much oil do you need?

Enter your petrol volume and choose the ratio recommended by the manufacturer. The calculator will show how much 2-stroke oil to add.

2-stroke oil to add 100 ml 5 L ÷ 50 = 100 ml

How to prepare the mixture

Always prepare fuel in a clean, approved container, in a well-ventilated area and away from ignition sources.

01

Check the ratio

Read the machine handbook or label before measuring anything.

02

Add the petrol

Pour the required amount of petrol into a clean, fuel-approved container first.

03

Measure the oil

Add the calculated amount of 2-stroke engine oil. Do not estimate the quantity.

04

Seal and mix

Secure the container, shake gently, label the mixture and avoid keeping old mixed fuel.

Suitable equipment

For smaller 2-stroke engines

This guide is suitable for machines whose manufacturer requires a petrol-and-oil premix. Not every machine within a category will use a 2-stroke engine.

Chainsaws

For chainsaws with 2-stroke engines that use premixed fuel.

Strimmers and brushcutters

For 2-stroke models that require petrol and oil to be mixed.

Hedge trimmers and blowers

For compatible handheld garden machines powered by 2-stroke engines.

Some lawnmowers

Only where the lawnmower handbook confirms a premix-fuel 2-stroke engine.

Do not confuse the two

Engine oil and chain oil perform different jobs

2-stroke engine oil

This is mixed with petrol at the specified ratio to lubricate the inside of a 2-stroke engine.

Bar and chain oil

This goes into the chainsaw’s separate oil reservoir to lubricate the guide bar and chain. Do not add it to the fuel.

Measure accurately. Mix with confidence.
