However, before proceeding to start up your Stihl chainsaw, there are certain things you need to put into consideration. First of all, it is important to make sure that you are properly suited up with the right gear before starting the chainsaw. Also, make sure your work area is clear of people or objects that may endanger you or cause accidents.
Step By Step Guide To Start Up Your Stihl Chainsaw.
Manufacturers of the Stihl chainsaw brand recommend starting up a chainsaw while in a sitting position. However, you can still start up a Stihl chainsaw while standing. Below is a step-by-step guide for starting up a Stihl chainsaw.
Step 1: The first step in starting up your Stihl chainsaw is to activate the chain brake by pushing the brake forward. In essence, it is essential to start a chainsaw only when the brake is on or activated.
Step 2: Always remember to take off the guide bar cover from the chain saw before starting it up.
Step 3: For Stihl Chainsaws with a decompression valve, make sure to press down the button as it will help to fire up the engine and start the chainsaw.
Step 4: For Stihl Chainsaws with a primer bulb, make sure to press it multiple times. This will help to reduce the number of times you have to pull before starting up your chainsaw.
Step 5: Set the master control lever to the cold start since you’re starting it up for the first time. To do this, first press and hold down the throttle trigger with your thumb. While holding it with your thumb, move the master control lever down to the lowest point. Attempting to start the engine with the choke closed can flood the Stihl chainsaw. This is one of the major reasons why your chainsaw may not start.
Step 6: Take a sitting or standing position and lay your Stihl chainsaw flat on the ground. Ensure that the chainsaw chain is not making contact with the ground to prevent it from getting dull when you start the chainsaw.
Step 7: Push your right foot into the rear handle for a sturdy grip. Place your left hand on the handlebar with your right hand holding the starter rope and your elbows locked for a better grip.
Step 8: Pull the starter rope slowly till you feel some bit of resistance, then pull it several times at a quick pace till the chainsaw fires up. Make sure you’re holding only the handle of the rope. Do not wrap your hand around or hold the rope itself. There’s no specific number of times to pull, but 2-4 pulls should get it started.
Step 9: Once the chainsaw fires up, it’ll die almost immediately. Once this happens, move the master controller just one click up to the warm start setting. This is the best way to start a choke on a Stihl chainsaw. This also helps the chainsaw to warm up.
Step 10: Using the same technique we mentioned in step 8, pull the starter rope vertically again and the engine will fire up again. This time, move the master controller up again to the idle setting. This will keep the chainsaw engine running continuously.
Step 11: Before you raise your chainsaw and start working, remember to check your surroundings to ensure there is no person or object in your way. Once you’ve picked up the chainsaw by the handlebar, you can release the chain brake by pulling it towards you.
Now your Stihl chainsaw is up and running, ready for use!!
